Going to College Part 2

and why it costs a billion dollars.
  1. College Choice

Individual Liberty is a real thing. You do not have to go to an expensive college far from home.

In state colleges and junior colleges are significantly less expensive.

  • obviously cost varies from state to state.

Several local junior colleges are less than $5k.

Boise State tuition for an Idaho resident is a roughly $10k.

Washington State in Pullman (about 6 hours from where we live in Boise) is almost $30k.

Oregon State is $38k.

The above numbers are tuition only.

If you got to college near home and live with your parents it is much less expensive.

  1. Demand is waaaaaay too high.

K-12 education has pushed college HARD for decades.

1970: 21% of HS graduates

2022: 61% of HS graduates

61% of HS graduates do not need to go to college.

They certainly don’t need to go immediately after graduation.

  1. Pressure

“You aren’t going to college? What are your plans? Homelessness?

When we combine #2 with #3 parents are hesitant to support foregoing college thus contributing to the increased demand.

  1. Government Interference

College loans are a scam.

They shift risk from the college to the student with the full backing of the federal government.

  • basically anyone can qualify because of “future earnings” or whatever

  • you can not discharge student loans in bankruptcy

Limitless funding allows people with zero college savings to send their kids to an expensive school. You can even use loans to pay for living expenses, etc.

Colleges, knowing students are told they need to go to college, can now raise prices through the frigging roof because parents and/or students can simply borrow as much as they need.

That’s it. That’s all Iv’e got.

Have a great day,

Kalian
