The Great George Washington warns factions and Parties will destroy the Republic in a 1796 address to the young nation.
It agitates the community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms, kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and insurrection. It opens the door to foreign influence and corruption, which finds a facilitated access to the government itself through the channels of party passions.
First - what amazing language. Just incredible. It’s written by President Washington, Alexander Hamilton and James Madison.
Second - the Founders understand human nature and government maybe 10x better than the flaccid ass nerds slow motion destroying the Republic.
More from Washington:
The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism.
^^^ This is where we are now.
Revenge as policy all but guarantees tyranny.
Why?
Because each side votes for the person most willing to hurt their political enemies.
It’s why Communists bring Fascists out of the woodwork.
Last quote:
The disorders and miseries which result gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of public liberty.
Seeking security and repose in the absolute power of an individual is anathema to Americanism.
It’s the antithesis of our Founding.
